"Classical and Emerging Themes in Leadership and Management Thinking" Arthur McKeown (Business Institute, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland) The aim of the presentation was to help managers in language teaching organisations and teachers of management and business English to identify opportunities for using the approaches of some significant gurus in the management of their organisation, teams they manage and their own personal development. Those attending are challenged to identify, from a large number of possibilities, a smaller number that are worthy of further enquiry, to suit their particular needs. The presentation had three elements: * A review of some classical approaches to leadership and management, * An overview of the recent contributions of some academics and practitioners. * A series of examples of how those attending can access a range of 'user cuddly' resources to develop their knowledge and understanding of the approaches and contributions mentioned in the earlier sections. The presentation was complemented by: * A brief opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues raised, * A simple self-assessment instrument to help those attending to identify gurus and approaches of particular interest to themselves, as a basis for follow-up activity, * A companion Moodle, for convenient access to links mentioned during the delivery of the presentation.
